The Fifth Edition of the Australia and New Zealand Food Fraud Report published August 2017. This edition leads with allegations a New Zealand winery has engaged in food frauds in the misrepresentation of vintage and varieties exported around the world. Other stories indicate blockchain is dominating as a food fraud solution; two persons in the UK have been gaoled for horse meat substitution that netted them an estimated $200K; millions of eggs have been recalled in the EU due to potential contamination following the fraudulent application of insecticide fipronil (banned in food production systems) to control fleas and lice in chickens; authorities warn of sales of fake alcohol in UK and Mexico, and food fraud detection techniques continue to develop.
